idling too fast
Hi, I recently bought a 1989 Ford Econoline 150 National Travelers conversion van. I bought it from a friend whose husband was handicapped. It has 41K miles on it and is pretty much pristine. I put 1500 dollars into it, replacing hoses, belts, brake lines, fuel lines, filters, valve gaskets and more. One problem, when I put it into park or neutral, it races. My mechanic doesn't have the computer info for a vehicle that old. I drove it once and it broke down, coughing and sputtering. My mechanic is frustrated and it keeps costing me more money. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Tom

Hi Tom,
We need some addl info like engine size, dual tanks etc.
Some of the things that were troublesome as I recall were, the coil, if original, the fuel pump relay, and fuel pumps. When maintained they provided very good service and repair cost was nothing near today's models. Have your mechanic check the fuel pump pressure on the fuel rail.
The older models also had a problem with the grounds inside the computer and replacement was the solution.
