Ignition switch the culprit for wipers, radio, fuel gauges stop working
My ignition switch is having contact issues at initial start. If I crank it and release as normal it shuts down immediately I have to crank it and hold it just before cranking but not all the way back to shutoff. There is that spot where it cranks and starts and runs as long as I hold it at that particular contact. Once running I have never had it lose connection and die while driving.About the same time as this ign switch issue the radio was what I noticed first then my dual fuel gages then my windshield wipers all quit working. They may have all quit at the same time but due to not using each item all the time it took awile to discover their malfunction. Fuses are all good circuit breaker for wipers tests good. Buddy thinks it’s related to ignition switch ???l
The ign sw itself should be mounted on the lower steering column just next to the brake pedal side..
To replace it usually is 2 screws and they do provide some slots to assure it is in the right place.
If you decide to replace it ,just unplug it , remove the fasteners, install the replacement and just make sure before you tighten everything , that the key when turned to start in park or neutral operates the starter and you should be good to go..Also make sure you index the link/rod from the upper part of the key tumbler to the same spot as found when you removed it.
