Unhappy Kan haz help? 🤓

What's up from Kansas. I am out checking for some answers and hoping some one here can help. I own all MOPAR's and one Ford Escort. Got a big fam so I'm hoping this one is able to be done on the cheap... getting 9 mpg when I should be getting 22 on the highway. Approx 70 mph for about 116 miles and boom dry tank. Fills up both times for the full 11.9 gal. It is the base 4 cyl automatic. Ideas?

There could be multiple reasons for low mileage among which could be;
Fuel leaking somewhere that you have not noticed,
Engine in need of some attn like plugs ,filters etc.
Restricted exhaust system,
Brakes dragging,
Low tire pressure,
What is the vehicle carrying,
Where it is driven,
How it is driven,
Is the system shifting into closed loop when warmed up,
Is the A/C running all the time or defrost selected when not necessary,
You didn't state what year vehicle, have you had the computer checked for any codes?
