Default My Frankenstein.....needs better braking

Frankenstein is the term for a vehicle made up of parts from other vehicles. In my case my 1999 E350 V10 with a 24ft class C rv, has seen a 4x4 and 6" lift conversion done to it. I have had it 12 years..heck of a truck, but has always suffered from poor braking performance. The problem starts with the front end being from an '86 F350. I have the standard brake arrangement..but, due to the weight factor, I really should be playing in a better sand box. I have checked with Power Stop and other out of the box manufacturers, and so far, not finding anything. Even just finding slotted or holed calipers for an '86 seems to be fruitless.

If anyone has a thought?

You are aware that anytime you start re engineering vehicles, you are open to problems.

Which braking system is on your vehicle , vacuum boosted or Hydroboost system?

Good day...thanks for your response. Yes, I am aware. In fact I have just stepped away from switching out gears in the transfer cases for that very reason. However...the need to be able to stop safely in a bad situation has been brought into focus thru our last three month winter foray. Nothing serious but I really do need to address this.

I have no idea what braking system. In all of the pad and rotor changes no one has ever mentioned either. And...on edit....just checked with the guy that normally does my brakes and stuff, says 99% sure vacuum. Old technology.

What needs to be done is, determine if full braking pressure is being applied to the front brakes which usually do most of the work. Do we know if the rear brakes are working at all?

Are you sure,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,the calipers AND pads are for a 350 which usually has larger calipers and pads and rotors?

What if you had a dealership check your vehicle for proper brake components for your vehicle. When so many things have been switched we really don't know what we have and if we keep installing the wrong parts, it will never perform as designed.
Can you post a few pictures of the brake master cyl and booster assy, thanks.

Nothing has been 'switched'....yet. The components are all over the counter things for an F350..rotors and pads. The rear brakes were last done last year and all components were working just fine. I do believe the major contributor is the weight of the RV. The lack of braking performance is nothing new, I just decided to try and remedy it. I will be able to get some pix of the booster etc mid-week. It is in a shop for fibreglass work.
