Default Towing Question

Hey Everyone,

I am new to towing anything and i have a need to use a trailer this comming weekend, though i do not have a Class III Hitch. I Own a 2002 F150 XLT 4.6L I have the Towing Package and previous owner took the hitch. There is a ball mounted to the bumper with the standard pigtail for the lights mounted under the bumper. How safe is it to tow with the bumper on this truck and if I get a reciever to bumper adaptor will this make it any better or stronger. I only need to pull a trailer a total of about 50 miles. It would be a 12' trailer hauling enough wood to build a 12'X12" deck. By the way it is a 4X2with a Limited slip 3.55:1 gear ratio.
