I don't think you ruined the solenoid , but The starter and alternator may have a problem.
When you turn the key to the start position do you hear the solenoid operate? If not, you need to check all the wiring for opens. I would leave the cable connection to the starter off until you can get the solenoid working right again. Once that is done then connect the cable to the starter and see what you get. If it will start we can go from there.

 

Be sure to check the fuse link wire as well.. They lead off of the solenoid and are designed to burn through on a short.. Sometimes they'll burn, and may/maynot burn through the outer insulation.. Give them a tug and if burned will pull apart..

 

I have a problem with my 2000 f-250 V10. The truck only has 12,500 miles on it. The problem is, sometimes I start and drive with no problems at all. Other times it will just turn over and not start. I will continue to crank it over a number of times and stop and crank it over again. I get it started and drive it. HELP.

 

I believe your vehicle has coil on plug ignition system , does it ?
If so, will need to come up with a way to determine if you are getting a crank signal to the ign module and PCM.
