best jerryrigged fix

RE: best jerryrigged fix
I like the fact that you can make a right hand turn on a red light. Here you can even make a left turn on red if you are on a oneway turning to another one. My guess as to why they don't let you do that on twoway streets, is that most accidents with cars going diffrent ways are from felled left hand turns.
I spoon my Ranger in the snow, tore-up the frontend. I replaced the headlight, side marks, and turnsignals with parts from the junk yard. I then hammered the metal fender, hood, and bumper close to back in shape. A few hole drilled and screws later I was back on the road. Even passed inspection in Virginia, and they're pretty tuff.

After I went through a fence in my SAAB, the bumper was all torn up on the side that hit. the edge of the plastic had a two inch tear in it. I drilled holes on either side of the rip and stiched it with tie wire, then I took plastic epoxy and spread it over the rips. after that dried, I cut the wire and pulled it out. side by side with another SAAB, it is barrely noticable. now more than a year later, it is still holding up.

In the Army while overseas, it has damn difficult to get some parts. The oil safety switch on
M -151 Jeeps gave out often. We'd pull the rubber connection plug and shove in the ends of a heavy paper clip in two of the three terminals to get back.
Not great I know, but it worked time and time again.

Everyone I'm sure has either done or seen the good ol' clothes hanger wire holding up the tailpipe when the brackets finally rusted through...uh...clear plastic windows when yours have been broken...oh, and i had an old aerostar where the latches for the back hatch broke, and since i was up at the cottage and wasn't paying them to fix it, i just closed the hatch and duct taped it shut...the van was grey too so it didn't even show...I now call Duct tape 60 mph tape cause it held really well...i'm talking rain and wind and a cop even passed me and didn't pull me over for an unsafe load...which i've been told would be the charge as it's rather illegal to use tape to fix something like that...hehehe

My experiences are more on dirtbikes. When you are out in the middle of nowhere, you make sure you take wire, so if something falls off, you just use the wire to strap it back on. Also a buddy had his number plate rip in half, and instead of buying a new one he used zip ties to hold in on. To this day it is still that way.

chicken wire muffler
78 Honda Civic, shoved 3' of tightly rolled up chicken wire in a piece of 2" flexible exhaust and it worked great as a muffler. Until the flex pipe flexed and melted through a brake line. Then I cut the brake line and stuck a screw from the door panel in it and went on my merry way.
How many of you have had a toggle switch in place of the fuel pump relay? I did, but it was a standard household light switch mounted on the fender!
First car, 71 Dodge Dart, the lights went out one night on my way home. Got home and Dad was being real slow about getting around to helping me fix it so I tried doing it with romex and light household light switch. Thought I had it all figured out but when I flipped the switch half the wires under the hood vaporized.
Don't even ask about trailer wiring!

It wasn't duct tape. It was a band aid . 1980 Renault LeCar manual shifter linkage broke a plastic connector piece on underside while coming home from a day of wind surfing and got her to shift in a couple gears only...got us home. A BAND AID!!! lol
