hanky and others.
This so called part is not a part
Jim at National Transmission in Lomita Ca, informed me that piece is used in the assemble of the 4r70w transmission.
he told me to throw it away.. no wonder the. number on it never showed for a part number..
Also this morning I removed the bushing, now ready to install everything
Thanks again hanky..
Best
Dave

Ford likes to do that, even the famous shipping plug that is found in the pan on the first pan drop. I wonder how many dishonest transmission techs charged for a repair because someone found one of these parts loose inside.

I installed the extension house bushing and the seal the other day... painted the drive shaft and the transmission
support waited for them to dry
Does anyone know how far down from the seal surface the bushing should go.. when I took it out
it was flush but when I tried putting the yoke into the housing it only went in about 1 inch.
now the yoke is 1.572 the steps up to 1.606.
the inside diameter of the bushing is 1.606... I'm kinda lost now.. I know that the bushing will not just slide out
and it won't slip in easy.
need some assistance

Best
Dave

The bushing should be flush with the recessed surface the seal sits on.

Did you use a bushing driver to install the bushing? If not there may be a burr that will need to be filed or sanded off. Once the yoke is installed it will allow the bushing to accommodate it. I realize you miked the yoke, but did you mike the installed bushing in a few paces? Most folks don't check the bushing to the yoke before installation. Did you by any chance check the fit and how did it fit then?

hello hanky
Thank you for that info..
For me it was just a morning of not thinking.. sorry
Yes that is how I installed it, lever for the seal seat. also made sure the little window in the bushing was at the 6 o'clock
position
What I was not taking into account was how far out from the seal the output shaft extended..
So it reality there is maybe 3" of shaft that the yoke covers...
Thanks for responding,,, but glad that I installed it correctly..
Best
and thanks again
Dave

Now it's just a matter of the gear selector and the calbe...
I shorten the shift cable to what I thought was the correct lenght but it still might be too long might need some more shortening.
For a bit the TPS has me confused until yesterday when I figured out So with crossed fingers I hope to have the
trans ready by Tuesday,
thanks for all your assist....
Best
Dave
PS: I'm not that point that many guys that are going to "build" their car realize that time is always against you, so instead of
having the car 100% ocmplete, I'm going to just put her on the road, then finish the small stuff...
again thanks for your assistance.
