Default Which Spring goes where e4od valve body

Hello,

1991 F250
E4OD
Valve body question

Well, made a small mistake. I'm installing a shift kit and wanted to check all my springs in the valve body. Took everything out and now I don't know which spring goes where. I've been looking online for quite a while and can't find the needed information. I can find diagrams and such, but many of the springs are similar to each other but not the same.

Any insight on where I can get this information. I need the info for the valve body, not the accumulator.

Thanks!

Just how many springs do you have? If they are in a pile suggest sorting them and laying them out according to size for a start.

If you pulled out the pistons and valve lands, this could take some time.
I might be able to locate some info, will not have it before tomorrow and not sure then.

There is one possible way to handle this and that would be to have a trans shop assemble the valve body since they should have the pix to do this.

I took out the pistons and valve lands also. I know where those go though. My schematic that I'm using shows those clearly with orientation and everything. The springs, however are just marked "spring" and I can't tell which one it is.

For springs I have 7. I think I can find where the two big ones go. It's 5 small ones where I have 2 that look similar and another 2 that look similar also.

One is colored orange the others have no color at all.

I really rather not, but if all else fails I might be able to find one at a wrecking yard I can disassemble to see where everything goes.

I have info similar to yours.
Other than possibly getting an exchange valve body all ready to install as I see it you have a few choices

Get one from a salvage yard and go that route as you mentioned.

If you went to a Ford dealership parts dept they MIGHT have those 7 springs and provide a copy of where each part number spring goes.

Check with a trans shop, they might have one , either good or just sitting on the shelf OR they might be able to assemble it as required .

If I can find any addl info , will get back to you.

I think I might have been able to figure it out last night. I’m just confused about two of the springs now. The other ones were either too skinny, too short, too fat, or too long to actually be installed in other holes.

I have two that could be a toss up. When testing all the parts, everything resets so maybe I got it.

I put everything back together and am planning on giving it a try soon.
