I have an 01 windstar LX. At first it was stalling while cold I would have to feather the throttle while starting it to keep it going. as long as my foot is on the throttle when slowing down at an intersection it will stay going until its warm then everything is fine. All the while when it starts to stall out the battery light flashes. I have has battery, alternator, starter checked all good. This has progressed into now while i turn either direction the battery light flashes and van starts to stall. this happens whether I am steering stopped or while moving. Any suggestions??

 

I have heard of wires in the steering column getting rubbed through and producing a similar problem . It is going to take some detailed checking to isolate the cause. A defective motor mount might be allowing excess movement either possibly pinching wires or stretching them. Might be a good idea to look at the engine and steering with the hood open engine running in park and move the steering wheel to see if there is any excess movement.

 

Just a thought...Have you checked/replaced the IAC (Idle Air Controller). Sounds like your IAC needs replaced.

1. Stalling while cold = symptom of failing IAC
2. Feathering of throttle while starting = symptom of failing IAC
3. Foot on throttle required when slowing down (engine going to idle) = symptom of failing IAC
4. Van starts to stall when turning in either direction (loading down engine at idle) = symptom of failing IAC
5. Flashing battery light due to idle going too low (engine rpms too low (stalling)) = symptom of failing IAC
