Default 94 Aerostar fuse 5 blows

Looks like I have a dead short on Fuse 5 (5 amp) in the passenger cab on the drivers side.
The emergency flashers work, but the blinkers do not.
I have a good meter and also made up a jumper to measure the current being drawn and it is well over 12 amps. Which I measure for just an instant.
Any ideas on what is wrong?
Thank you

What does your owner's manual or fuse panel indicate in its entirety, all the devices protected by fuse # 5?

I will try to attach the Items from the Owners Manual.

Here is the listing from my manual.
Thank you

Pretty sure the hazards use a different flasher than the signal lamps.
If all the lamps work fine with the hazard system , that would rule out the supply to the flasher and all the lamps.

The only difference would be within the signal lite flasher, or switch , the rest works fine is of no concern.

Just looking without any diagram what IS concerning is it has to be supplying a pretty small load to utilize a 5 amp fuse. Should that possibly be a 15 amp fuse in there ?

This version uses only one Flasher for both the blinkers and Hazard. I had replaced the Multi Switch and everything ran OK.
I will check Lamps and unplug the Switch to see if I can isolate the problem.
Thank you, Jack

I did manage to check a fuse box diagram and fuse #5 is supposed to be 15 amp rating.

Was that a typo or the incorrect fuse in there?

Yes, I must be getting too old; it is supposed to be 15 amp and that was blown.
I can put a 30 amp meter on and check it again before putting the new 15 amp fuse in. Thank you

You will need a wiring diagram and ohm meter. You probably have a short to ground and that can be verified at the fuse connection and start disconnecting to see the very low resistive path to ground disappear, giving you some direction. My bet is a chaffed or pinched wire, especially if any work had been done in the past.. Disconnect the battery prior to doing any resistive checks.

Thank you. I tried measuring the current with a 0.5 ohm 50 watt resistor in series with my 30 amp meter and got about 20 amps, so there is a short somewhere.
I will disconnect the battery and do the resistance tests as I try to isolate things on that fuse.
Thank you
