Default excess heat from rotor/brake?

New to the forum, and working on a 1996 Merc Villager van for my mom. Van had been sitting for about a year, and driver front caliper apparently locked up. Extreme heat on caliper and rotor.
I took the pads off, loosened the bleeder, compressed the caliper and worked the caliper in and out several times. Reassembled it and same problem. I then replaced the caliper with a new one. Same problem, though not as hot as before. Still, excess heat on driver front. No heat on pass front.
Any ideas??
Thanks
