Default Windstar power steering fluid is black

The power steering fluid in my ’98 Windstar (3.0L EFI engine) has turned black. Is this normal, or does it indicate a problem? Is this something that should be looked at and fixed?

Power steering fluid (ATF) wears the same as your tranny fluid. High pressure and heat causes it to oxidize and break down. The fluid needs replaced with fresh fluid. Without fresh fluid, your looking a P/S pump and or Rack failure.
