Okay, I have a 1998 Ford Contour with a 1997 engine put into it. It is a four cylinder, and the same codes keep coming back every once in a while.

Over a year ago, I replaced the MAF sensor (code P0102) and I did the camshaft position sensor for the second time about 4 months back (code P0340).

I don't believe that these parts are just going to keep on going bad all the time, and I assume that something else is making these parts go bad, or just making them malfunction so that the computer thinks they are bad.

Here are the symptoms:

1. Sluggish acceleration always.
2. Engine sometimes bogs down between 50-55 mph.
3. On one occasion, all the dashboard lights came on, and then flashed back off. This happened at the same time as the RPM's going up on their own and then back to normal. This recently happened when the car was just started up, and hadn't been driven yet.

Something you can try,
Unplug the plug on the alternator and test drive the vehicle. If the problems disappear , replace the alternator with an OEM rebuilt from Ford.
Alternators when malfunctioning can send voltage spikes into the elec syst and drive the computer nuts.
Suggest a Ford remanufactured alt because many aftermarket alternators come with problems which you really don't need or want.
