03 GM lost only key
I have a 2003 Mercury Grand Marquis and I lost the only key I just bought the car what are my options. I live in new orleans area kinda worried about locksmiths. What exactly do they have to do? Ford dealer says they only go back 10 yrs there is nothing they can do.

Not all locksmiths are registered to have access to vehicle key programming.
First they need to get the present key info from the PAT system with a capable scan tool. Then they can program two keys for you . After that you can program your own. but you must have two working keys to do that. There will most likely be the cost of the service call, the programming and the cost of the two keys. Might be a good idea to shop around and see if they charge different rates. Keys can range in cost from $50-75 EACH, AND THE XTRA cost for a third key is nothing like the cost to have a locksmith do all that over again.
