Default 2000 oil pressure gauge question...

When I start my car, the gauge goes instantly to mid-range or so. Does anybody else's gauge behave like that? Or do you get a gradual rise from zero?

Normal..

The oil pressure sender (switch) is nothing more than an 'open~closed' unit.. With normal oil pressure on start up the sender/switch will close and the gauge will quiclky jump to center gauge....

Seems that would be the same as a useless idiot light. You have seen this on other Vics? To me, the only point to having a gauge is to be able to read the whole range. Other vehicles I've owned have had electric gauges with sending units that vary the reading, so if the On/Off switch analogy is true, this is a regression on the part of Ford or maybe just a cheap way to offer a gauge. Guess I will have to add a mechanical gauge.
