most shops will run plastic replacement lines as its the cheapest option and they don't rust. you can buy compression fittings made to join metal to plastic lines or plastic to plastic.
-decide want you want to use for repair material...plastic or steel tubing.
with a tubing cutter cut out the bad section. connect the new section with the compression fittings. if using steel and the line needs to flex; don't run straight lines. but at least 2 bends in the line to protect against vibration stress. secure the new line with zip ties or the old clips if they are still usable.prime the system, start it up and check for leaks.

Just a little reminder, that "plastic" line needs to be "synflex tubing"which is used and stands up to gasoline. Make sure the inserts are in the ends where you use the compression fittings if you decide to go that route. Folks who don't do these things every day may not be aware of the little things we who do this frequently take for granted.
