Another no start van
Hello all. My 92 E150 5.0 has had some starting issues but since it is a part time camper i haven't messed with it. I dont think much pm work has been done on it over it's lifetime, so I am doing that in conjunction to getting it going again. Issue is that it will turn over but will not fire up. The plugs have been changed in the past, new fuel filter and regulator.I have tested the plugs with a tester and get no spark. Checked going into distributor from coil and get no spark. Back probed coil wire and had power to coil. Went ahead and changed out ignition module since I have read these go bad, and at least have a spare. Still no spark, the fuel pump comes on and stays on, does not shut off after a few seconds. Also noticed I do not get a check engine light on the cluster when cycling key. Leaning towards a bad computer since i am getting no signal control. Just waiting till I can convince myself to work on this thing again.
You might find it easier if you remove the battery.
Under the battery shelf is a multiple connector that plugs onto the computer (ECM) You will need a 10 mm socket to remove the bolt that holds the plug to the ECM.
It might be a good idea to look there for any possible corrosion before condemning the ECM.
To remove the computer you will need to unbolt a clamp inside the vehicle that secures the ECM. All that is located just above the blower motor assy

Appreciate it Hanky. I was getting confused, sort of, on the location of the ECM. I see some videos that show it to the left of the brake booster as you look at it from the front, but I did not look there. I did find the 2 big plugs to the right of the booster closer to the fender. Believe me I don't want to shell out more money than I have to at this point, I was hoping to just get in a tune up and press on. Now that I have some time away I will get a calmer look at this tonight and come up with a plan. It is my understanding that I can do this without having to program a new ECM as long as I get the right one. I may look for a donor in the junkyard to test it out, at the least I can return it for credit. Have a good one today.
