Hi,
2012 Ford E250 with 5.4 Gas engine makes loud noise, had a light ticking noise and then when we drove it suddenly lost power and made this noise,
Do I need the new engine ? what is the noise ? I have recorded the video from noise and upload it on YouTube , please see the video here :
It does sound like a connecting rod let loose.
If you can diminish the sound some at idle, that would verify which cyl and a connecting rod.
Many times an engine can be saved depending on just how much damage it has suffered.
At least 3 choices, salvage yard engine or open it up and see if present engine can be saved, if too extensive, a remanufactured engine. Which comes with all the latest modifications and better warranty. Costs the most too.
A little side note, have heard the same noise from a cracked flywheel flexplate., which cannot be minimized shorting out cyls..
Take an oil sample at the drain plug (look for metallic debris there), and/or cut open the oil filter to look for captured debris. It'll shed some light on what failed internally.
I second hanky mentioning the flex plate, but it wouldn't have caused loss of power but can cause extreme knocking noise, vibration etc.
Job one for me would be an oil check for suspended/trapped metals..
This is where an engine stethoscope comes in handy too.

Good idea, will do oil change it tomorrow ,
We had an oil change before this crazy sound, It had a little ticking noise before,
I drained the oil and open up the oil filter and could not find any broken piece , Then I took the oil pan off and could not find any broken piece except the little plastic piece and few silver tiny metal on oil pickup screen ,
I have a hard time to take the oil pan off (why Ford makes like this) , but I looked at crank shaft and looks like some one used 40 greet sand paper and scrub it , Please take a look at pictures and let me know , I am still hoping we can restore the engine
