I've done it once already and it was a real PITA so I'm hoping someone has some tips and tricks on how to do it. Previously I had to pull the rubber molding/seal to get the glass in the top of the door and it was a real PITA.

 

Usually you remove the door panel covering and that allows greater access to the entire mechanism/ It does require some special tools, but is much easier than the way I believe you did it.
