I have a 2000 e150, v-8, and was wondering if anyone else has had problems with ignition coils going out frequently. Mine like to go through a new one in a few thousand miles. about 10-15k. I am new to owning a e150 but is this a common issue? any help or solutions would be helpful on ridding this problem

 

A lot depends on where you are purchasing the new coils. If you have not purchased one from a Ford Dealership Parts dept yet, it may be time to do that. Unfortunately a lot of aftermarket junk is imported from poor quality manufacturers. Many of us in the trade have learned the hard way to stick with OEM (original equip manufacturer) products. I have a 2000 E250, 5.4 and have had to replace 3 coils in 167,000 miles and 2 of those just now.

 

i guess now i am just trying to find out which one(s) are bad. The check engine light doesn't stay on and the local orielly guy wouldn't scan it until the check engine light comes on and stays on. any suggestions because the van still has a bad miss and is keeping me from driving it long distances.

 

You need to be careful diagnosing misfires. The ECM will disable an injector because of a bad plug, wire, or connection to protect the converter making you think you have a bad injector. Must have good quality scan tool to diagnose or better yet a Scope.
