Loud clanking noise on startup

Two things,
Noises have a way of telegraphing thru the vehicle and don't necessarily always make sense as to where they originate.Dampener problem most likely would not go away after warm up.
Can you create the noise when the vehicle is not moving and you briefly apply some throttle while in gear with the brakes on?
If so it could be a broken motor mount allowing the moving parts to contact something that may be close by.

No ! When throttle is applied the engine attempts to apply power and will lift some as power is applied until the torque is reduced.
If a mount is bad , you will see the engine lift and look like it wants to come out of the engine compartment. Depending on the degree of wear, a faulty mount can produce a lot of different symptoms.
