2010 Ford Edge Sport AWD Gas Milage ?
Hello boys and girls :
I bought my wife a 2010 Ford Edge Sport AWD ( Brand New )
The fuel milage really sucks ! As a matter of fact , it has gone down since new . It was giving 21.5 to 22 mpg when new , and now is down to 19.5 to 19.8 mpg . My dealers service dept. is great , but they tell me there isn't much that can be done . I am getting what I am getting as far as mpg . We traded in a Ford 500 AWD that was giving us an average 22 to 25 mpg around town and we got 30 mpg onthe open road ( expressway ) .
We even owned a 1987 Mustang LX T-Top with the Hi-Po 5.0 / 302 T5 5 Speed , and we ran 20 mpg around town ( Unless I put my foot into it ) and on the open road we got 25 to 28 mpg .
So ,can anyone tell me what's with the poor gas milage with our 2010 Ford Edge Sport AWD , and is there any trick or thing that I cando to beter the gas milage ?
( This is of course barring leaving it in the driveway )
Gee , I'm not getting much better mpg on the Edge than I am on my 2003 F-150 4X4 with the 4.6 V8 ?????????
Any thoughts would be appreciated .
Thanks ,
Boogie Man

Have been wrestling with the same issues Boogie Man. Unfortunately, I have come to the conclusion that, as your dealer says, it is what it is. I have had a couple of F150's, one 2003 Super Cab 2WD and a 2008 Super Crew 4WD, both with the 5.4L Triton engine. I just recently got a 2012 Edge SEL 2WD and assumed that the gas mileage would be much better. Not. Better yes, but not nearly what I thought based on size and weight of all vehicles concerned.
I believe the automotive industry has done a great job on reducing weight, building more efficient power plants and better transmissions. And I think there has been a major improvement in highway gas mileage but for the most part, city gas mileage still leaves a lot to be desired.

Rick :
I hear you pertaining to your comments on the gas milage . But , it makes no snese to what the industry is telling us . They advertise the milage of today's vehicles , and if anyone checks the past , Cars like the 1960's vintage FORD FALCON were delivering 30 + MPG , so what we are being told is just a white wash . Also , all of this garbage with areodynamics and fuel savings , the MPG hasn't changed over the years no matter what the styling of the vehicle is like . I owned a 1977 Ford Granada which had a fairly flat front square body styling . ( Not very areodynamic ) It had a 250 Cubic Inch 6 cylinder engine with a 4 speed overdrive transmission , and I got 24 MPG city driving . and 28 to 30 MPG on the open highway .
And that's with a carburetor and Very Little Emission Control garbage on it . And , I personaly think that most of the Emmision Control JUNK under the hood is there to just make you take your car back to the dealership and pay big money for the computer age that we live in . An engine today has to be De-tuned so it will run properly , and if you look at the tail pipe it is coated soot black . In my day we could advance the timing to a maximum lean out the carburator to an amount that the engine would run at it's peak performance , using almost ALL of the fuel being fead to it , and the tail pipe would be a light gray with no sooty residue . The vehicles of today are only built the way they are so an engineer can have a job , and the average guy can't do any shade tree mechanics . ( Of course , they don't want you to be able to do that . )
Until the next time ,
Boogie Man

2013 Edge Poor Mileage
Oh ya I hear you. My 2013 Edge Ecoboost (AKA Guzzler) is terrible. 6.6L/100 HWY is a total LIE. I am close to 12L/100 HWY. On paper my mileage is closer the Ford Raptor!
I get much better on my Mustang GT 11.2L/100 combined. Two dealers tell me wait to 18,000 km as per Ford policy. Customer service at Ford has not yet replied to me as I am running this up the chain.
What a mistake. If I could get my money back and return it, I would.
