2017 Ford Edge Sport Headlight Not Working
Hello All,
First time Ford buyer and regretting my decision!
Purchased a 2017 Ford Edge Sport in February 2019 w/ 22k miles on it. In April 2019, noticed the drivers side headlight was not working 9 out of 10 times so intermittently. Has anyone else had any trouble out there with their HID headlights???
Below is a summary of my experience dealing with this headlight issue, I can't believe the series of events in order to get a Ford headlight fixed. As of July 4th, the vehicle has been to the dealership seven times for this and it's still not fixed.

Below is a summary of my experience dealing with this headlight issue, I can't believe the series of events in order to get a Ford headlight fixed. As of July 4th, the vehicle has been to the dealership seven times for this and it's still not fixed.
- April 26th, 2019 (Friday) - Brought vehicle in, in the morning, and was told to drop it off it would need to be diagnosed and would to be there for a few hours. Dropped vehicle off at 7:30am, went home, and by 8:15am received a call informing us vehicle was ready for pick up and headlight bulbs needed to be ordered.
- May 8th, 2019 (Wednesday) – Came back to the dealer in the morning to have bulbs installed. After about 30 minutes a male service advisor notified us that the warehouse sent the wrong bulbs and now the correct bulbs had to be ordered.
- May 21st, 2019 (Tuesday) – Came back to the dealer in the morning to have the new bulbs installed. After about 45 minutes of waiting a female service advisor told us dealership ordered the wrong parts, due to the Ford Edge being a sport model and was told new parts needed to be ordered.
- May 24th, 2019 (Friday) - Came back to the dealer in the morning to have the correct parts installed. That same night headlight did not work.
- June 10th, 2019 (Monday) - Came back to the dealer in the morning. After about 20 minutes service advisor told us there was a loose connection in the headlight and it just needed to be pushed back in.
- July 1st, 2019 (Monday) – Came back to the dealer in the morning. Had the appointment to look at the headlight again, but headlight decided to work that morning so no problem could be diagnosed. After speaking w/ service advisor his recommendation was next time the headlight doesn’t work just stop by, in order for technician to see the problem and diagnose.
- July 3rd, 2019 (Wednesday) – Came back to the dealer in the afternoon, around 3:30pm, noticed headlight was not working and drove straight to the dealer. Vehicle was brought in with inoperable headlight, technician to diagnose. After about 20 minutes service advisor described that the headlight is still not working, and the technician cannot figure it out. The next set of instructions received from the advisor is to take the vehicle home without a working headlight and return to the dealership on July 8th, 2019 (Monday) in order to have a Ford Engineer look at the headlight.
I don't know if this will be of much help, but what used to be a simple bulb check, replacement or wiring repair in the past has gone into a whole new dimension these days..
The very latest electrical and electronic systems in the newer vehicle these days can be challenging to even an experienced tech . A simple tail light or signal or stop light can be controlled by a module (separate computer) and diagnostics are imperative in order to correct a simple light out. Some dealerships don't send their techs for the special training they need to work on the newest vehicles and the customer winds up paying for their shortsightedness..You have of course another option and that is to try another dealership..although you shoulodn't have to.
There are also those problems with personnel that can't seem to get things right when ordering parts
.It is a sad day when you have to go through such lengths just to have a malfunctioning light repaired and it is not limited to just one manufacturer. Patience is truly a virtue here and of course , "It's easy for me to say.". Look at it this way ,you may never have another problem like this with your vehicle after many years of owning it.
