Default 09 Ford Escape XLT AWD 3.0l

Hey so I'm having some fuel issues that are really confusing for me. It also started when I noticed my fuel gauge was off about half a tank. So I replaced the fuel pump, a few days go by and all of sudden I go through gas like its a wildfire. I have one code EVAP emission pressure sensor circuit high. I will attach a YouTube link to a video I made that shows what it is doing. It is so hard to explain in words. In the video I am just in my driveway with the car on. I just have no idea what is going on with my car.

Because it is SO IMPORTANT to know where the parts came from, we ask.

There are so many cheap parts out there that are defective right out of the box , one could spend all day chasing a problem that might still be present because the "New" parts were defective.

When you state you replaced the fuel pump, did you replace the entire fuel pump assy with gauge sending unit or just the pump motor itself?

Unless there is a good size leak or the engine is running very rich, consumption should not change when the assy is replaced.
There could be a few reasons for the inaccurate readings so we need to look at the procedure for replacing ,hopefully a defective original part , carefully.
It is no big deal to replace a fuel pump module, but you would not believe how some folks can do it carelessly and wind up with readings that are not correct.

Thank you for the reply. I try to do the best I can with buying parts I hope it not that case. I used a Delphi fuel pump assembly. This is honestly my first ford experience. I usually had vw growing up but needing something more spacious so got this.

Delphi is usually a quality part.
A lot depends on if the fuel tank was completely lowered to make the change
I say this because if in the process of installing the dangling float assy if it was bent on installation that would provide wrong readings.
Something else to keep in mind,, if the connections had some type problem , that could be a reason for inaccurate readings.
One of the things we learn to do anytime we are installing a new module assy is to hook up the wiring and watch what readings we get at the dash gauge with the float almost all the way down and almost all the way up. That would tell us the sending unit, the wiring and the dash gauge are all working correctly

I haven't met anyone that wanted to drop a tank full of gas again to check this after the job was done. Once is enough !.

I didn't drop the tank. I went through the access panel in the back seat. I was worried about possibly ****ing it up installing it. But that still wouldn't cause the random drop of 20 miles of gas would it?

miles per gallon is still
number of miles divided by the number of gallons used.
The unknown problem could be if the float was hanging up inside the tank, it could throw off the values and cause them to not be accurate.

It is a funny thing, but when we are not absolutely sure the thing didn't go together smoothly, darn it, we somehow know there could be a problem with it.

If you feel there is a possibility something hit something on the way in or had trouble getting the assy in the right position, it might not be a bad idea to recheck your work.
Make sure you know the area the float has to travel that when the unit is installed it is free to travel it's full range unimpeded.

Just incase it is due to my poor installation I did buy another assy just incase I broke that one. And I was going to re do it and be more patient with things. I was also going to replace the fuel pressure sensor on the fuel rail and fuel tank to try and fix the code being thrown. Is there possibly anything else I should buy and replace while I'm at it.

Also what type of underlying issues could this whole issue cause to my car. I know Theres alot of electrical components in this car.

As long as your vehicle is usable, I would hold off buying parts until you are sure the part you are buying is necessary
Those fuel pump modules are expensive and we want to be sure another one is necessary before throwing a lot of $$$ away.
If you bought the part I think you did , it runs around $300-400. That is a lot of bread to put out especially if you don't have to.
If you do the check earlier suggested BEFORE installing the module, you will know right away if it is good and working right.
Now you have a better idea of what not to do, and you recheck your installation procedures, you should feel completely confident it was installed correctly.
The secret is to take your time and treat the part like you are working with glass ,carefully and you should be OK.

Thank you so much with taking the time to respond so delicately. If the fuel pump is installed incorrectly and I fix it and still have that issue. What do you suggest I do next? Or better yet look at closely more if the issue persist? Again thank you for taking the time to respond to my inquire.

All we need to do is;

Remove the assy you installed.
Connect the wiring to the assy.
Turn the key on
Watch the fuel gauge on the dash while you raise and lower the float.
The needle on the dash gauge should go to the full mark as you raise the float.
If it does this , the unit is still good.
If not , do the same test with the second new unit.
If it works as the test states , there is no other problem. Turn the key off.
Now,,,,,,,,,,,,,note,, where the float has to be in the tank so it can rise and fall with the fall with the fuel level. It MUST be in that position when the screws are installed.
You might be able to rotate it SLIGHTLY so the holes for the screws line up. Remember,,,,,,,,,,, that float has to be able to go completely up and down inside the tank without hitting anything.. The rest is a piece of cake. You are experienced now,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,just take your time.
