2008 Escape Hybrid thermal issue / AC fan not working as well
Hey guys and gals. I have a 2008 Ford Escape Hybrid that’s been a great car over the years. Several years ago, I began having an issue where it would go into a partial limp mode when the temp gets over 80 degrees out. No codes at all. Also, when it would do this, the engine wouldn’t shut off when coming to stops or just at idle. My fans would be kicking on all the time. Then my AC fan stopped working. I replaced the fan, and it still doesn’t work. I’ve tested it and the fan powers up fine when 12v is connected to it. I’ve replaced the thermostat/ housing/ water pump. I don’t believe these have coolant temp sensors, just head temp sensor, correct? I’m kind of at a loss of what to try next. My AC works, it’s just frustrating when this goes into a limp type mode. You have to stand on the gas and wait for the thing to get going. It’s drivable, but not exactly safe. Any thoughts on what could be causing the engine not to shut down or why my AC fan no longer powers on? BTW, I’ve tested the battery fans and they both power on. I’ve even replaced the AC compressor as well. And both of my coolant pumps have been replaced and are working . Appreciate it.

In your opinion, would one of the 150$ scan tools suffice? Or I bite the bullet and have a dealer do a diagnostic on it. Just don’t want to drop too much into this thing. I’ve done all my own work on all my Fords and was hoping to figure this one out.
