When I bought my Escape in 2008, I changed my oil every 7,500 miles as the owner manual recommended. The dashboard message would start displaying a reminder to change the oil at about "5% oil".

I haven't been keeping track of oil changes over the last few years - and, I just realized the oil-change-reminder has been coming on at random intervals of 2,500 to 4,500 miles.

Is this normal?

My escape has 108,000 miles on it.

I'll answer my own question.
Ford trucks and cars use mileage OR time (which ever comes first) to determine when to turn the oil-change-light on. For my Escape it is 7,500 miles or 6 moths - which ever occurs first.

 

IDK about the 08...but the 09 you can select % for oil life change...I just keep it at 100% .
