Hi, I too have a 2009 ford escape - owned it since it was new and shiny...I miss those days!

I still have it and I have experience your exact description concerning the vibration. I found the problem and have since fixed it. The issue was one of the cooling fans had lost its weight, causing it to be unbalanced. I could not balance it, so I went to the scrape yard and bought the cooling fan assembly from another 09 escape. Once I replaced it it worked perfect! Also, I confirmed the problem before replacing, i.e., I unplugged one of the motors to prove that was where the vibration came from.

Hopefully that is insightful and helpful.

Thank you for sharing that info with us.
Darn good reason why "Two heads are better than one". You noticed the vibration was at a particular time and under certain conditions. This is why it is so important to provide as much info as possible even though it may not seem relevant at the time.

Mercer thank you for the reply going to check that out, will unplug the fan motor to make sure and will let you know what happens. Have you ever taken out the Connecting tube to the EGR the small one with the bend to it, is it easy to take out.

Default Connecting Tube

Took off the EGR Connecting tube the one connected to the intake manifold, no wonder I have a code P0400 Exhaust Gas Recirculation flow malfunction. The tube is clogged with carbon what a terrible design, cleaned it up will put back in Monday have to take a ride to Ford to get a new rubber gasket, I know this is my problem, Will update after I have done a full drive cycle.

I have experienced the same buildup of carbon on the EGR tube. It was an easy clean. However, I did not experience the code you mentioned. Hopefully this alleviated your flow restriction. I hear that the EGR valve could be problematic, which may require replacement in the future. I have yet to replace mine, but will be prepared should the time comes.

It would be interesting to hear your prognosis

Hopefully your vibration problem was resolved. If I remember correctly, there were two fan motors (primary and secondary), so you might have to validate both to establish the vibration source.

Concerning your query, I have cleaned the egr tube. Actually it should be a recommended maintenance activity. It can get quite dirty, which can certainly impede the fluid flow.

Keep up the great work!
