Yesterday I turned onto the highway and gave my 2013 Ford Escape 2.0 Turbo some gas and the Transmission went into "Safe Mode". I used my buddy's code scanner and it gave a "P0751 Solenoid A Stuck On/Off" code. Transmission shop says it need a new transmission to the tune of $4400.00. Said they figured it was the clutch packs.

Any ideas?

I'm having a hard time seeing its needs a replacement as the car has 93,000miles on it and i've never had any problems with it before yesterday. No slipping or problems getting into gear whatsoever. Hell, its still before the "Recommended Transmission Maintenance" the manual says to do at 100,000 miles.

 

I could just be a failed solenoid, in this case the "A" one. If it is stuck than line pressure affecting shifting will be off and that condition can kill clutch packs if the problem goes on unattended

Sometimes this is just dirty fluid. At 93k miles....you are certainly close enough to the recommended service interval of changing fluid & filter. This will not "fix" a failed solenoid but "may" resolve a stuck one due to crap in the fluid.

Get a second opinion before rolling over for a new tranny

 

A good knowledgeable tech hardly ever would disagree with getting another opinion and even a third opinion.

 

Do you mind if we ask. What did you find out?

 

For posterity, Transmission was done. Had to get a new one. My close friend works at a transmission shop, since last year he's had 3 more Escape's come in with the same Code Combo. Each one required a new transmission. It was ****ty, but it happens.
