Hey new to the site and i have a question

I just replaced the alternator in my 97 ford escort and the battery light came on , also it does not seem to be giving as many volts as it use to (when the old alternator worked) and when ever i accelerate hard the battery light flashes and the heat sensor goes all wacky and jumps up and down
