2004 Expeition possible ECU problem
My Expedition runs very erratically. Low to no power for acceleration. Occasional backfire when driven and erratic shifting. The MIL is not on and there are no OBD codes. The ECU # is 4L1A-12A650-NA. I can't find a local ECU repair facilityfor testing/repair. I'm considering obtaining a used ECU to try. What are the ramifications of doing this? Such as ignition key no longer working and non matching VIN? Also, does a replacement need to have the NA suffix? I've been directed to one with an RA sufix, but I don't know if that's critical. Any input would be appreciated.

You would not believe the problems encountered if you switch an ECM without a scan tool to "Program it" these days.
For starters' anthi-theft system will prevent the vehicle from starting then if you try putting in the old PCM , that will no longer work either.
Have you considered checking the ECM/PCM plug connections for any corrosion ? Common problem especially if moisture/water got nearby.
