Help Identifying Part - 2013 Ford Expedition EL King Ranch
Hello! I recently bought a 2013 Ford Expedition EL King Ranch with 146,000+ miles. I love it but of course has been having a couple issues. After reading through a few threads and watching a few videos I believe I have an issue somewhere with my 4WD and possibly brakes. Whenever I get around 40mph or try to go uphill I get a noise, I do have a few videos. While looking for said problem I found a hole in my vacuum hose as well as some hose not connecting to anything. After comparing my vehicle to another 2013 expedition I found I am missing this little part that connects to a hose from a compressor right behind the passenger headlight. Not sure what this tiny part is or what it does and would appreciate any help! I did have new brakes and driver side caliper replaced.
This is my hose with the part missing. Hose of other expedition with part attached. Hose of other expedition with part attached. Hose of other expedition with part attached. Hose of other expedition with part attached. Hose of other expedition with part attached.
It's a vacuum reservior. Is it hard to stop, like press the pedal down. You need vacuum so the brake booster can operate correctly. Also the 4WD is vacuum operated so your hubs will always be engaged. Your engine may also be running less efficient than it should. If you have the 3.5l turbocharged engine the wastegates are also vacuum operated.

Good to know, thank you! I’ve had my brakes, front left caliper and brake hose, a vacuum line fix, as well as solenoid replaced, and I just replaced the part I have pictured. I still have a rattle noise while going uphill while using cruise control but it’s not as often as before. My dad was a mechanic so it’s hard for me not to search for a fix to my problem.
Your welcome I'm a dealer tech and I just like helping out. I don't even own a Ford I just work on them.
Are you going to take it back into the shop for the noise? Were they supposed to have fixed it?

I’m planning to take it to my Uncle. I thought (as well as the shop) it was my caliper sticking and with my brake hose completely collapsed we all assumed it would be fixed. I have tons of videos of the noise, but nobody can really pin where or what it’s coming from.
Yea, as you know, videos are good to show "this is the noise I have a concern with" but unfortunately the audio output is non directional. But if someone had heard the exact noise under the same conditions before, they may be able to give an educated guess but it would be just that, a guess.
Good luck with finding the source, please update me when yall find it.
Sorry I’ve been having trouble uploading the video, but the rattle in the video is what I get going uphill. Will definitely update when we pinpoint the source.
