HELP, I'm in need of a gas tank
I've got a really nice 1998 Expedition XLT 4WD that needs a 30 gallon poly fuel tank because somebody decided that jabbing the tank was the easiest way for them to steal the gas. Does anyone have a lead on a used tank? Anybody parting-out a 1998 Expedition, or have a neighbor with a wrecked one? Ford has discontinued it. The 26 gallon tank from a 4x2 won't work. I'm in the Portland, OR/Vancouver. WA area and willing to drive a good distance to pick it up.

I have not visited the Ford dealer directly. I've got a local shop looking for me - he checked his sources, and the Ford dealer, and came up empty.
Also got a response from raski here on the Forum. He suggested what looks like a TERRIFIC website. car-parts.com is showing 5 within about a hundred miles.
Thanks to everyone who read, thought about what to do, and/or responded - I REALLY appreciate it!

Hopefully, it's the end of THIS saga.
car-parts.com did the trick, there were 17 or 18 fuel tanks listed, but several were old listings that were never updated, some yards just drill the tanks and crush the vehicle (even though the tank is on the list) unless you catch them before it's crushed. I found one at All West Coast Auto Wrecking in Shelton WA JUST BEFORE THEY DRILLED THE TANK. Thank you, Lord! The day before yesterday, Taylors Towing said they'd check to see if they had one they could pull. No call back until 20 minutes after I found the one at All West Coast Wrecking. So, if you need one call them quick, they're not too happy with me right now because they had just pulled the tank!
I want to extend my Thanks to all you folk that got involved in my tank issue. I TRULY appreciate your help & concern.
THANK YOU!

Just wanted to pop-in and say THANKS (again) for the help you fellas gave me in finding that tank for my Expedition. She's been up and running for about 3 or 4 weeks now. Runs GOOD, Really like the beast. We call her Dudley, cuz she (he) handles everything we need done.
I did find another tank at Taylors Towing down in Cottage Grove if you hear of anybody else needing one (30 gal 4x4tank), but I hope no one else needs one for that reason (Took $105 bucks to filler up).
At any rate - Thanks again for your help - you guys are great!

My dad and I were on a fishing trip in the family 1957 Ford station wagon in the mid-1970s and someone did
the exact same thing - stabbed the tank with an ice pick just to get some gas.
No mind you, the '57 Ford had a metal tank... so the trick probably won't work on a modern or poly tank... but
just in case it does....
My dad got us home by taking a self tapping pan-head machine screw, some gasket sealer and a rubber
faucet washer. He ran the screw through the washer and into the tank, with some.gasket sealer between
the tank metal and the rubber washer. .
Yes, the gas deteriorated the washer but he had purchased about 10 of them and used 4 to get us
home (each one lasted about 15-20 hours).
Hope this trick does someone some good.
