Default starter issues!

I got a 97 expedition that won't start it has over 200 thousand miles on it and hasn't had a problem so I thought it was my fuel pump. I fixed it but it still doesn't start. then i remembered i slammed my key out of frustration against the wall and from there on my key hasn't worked. i didn't think about that until today. Could that be the problem? The black part of the key broke off. Is there some kind of chip in it that may have broke? Is it possible to program my spare key that only opens door to start my car?

Sounds like you're on your way to fixing the problem. You don't usually need a coded key to open the trunk, but do need a working coded key to start the car.

So i need a working key to start the car but how can I get it to work again? I heard heard getting 1 from my dealer was expensive and I I already wasted enough on my car for parts that weren't broken :/ so could a locksmith fix my original car key?

If you haven't already done so, why not check with a local locksmith and get an estimate of what he can do and what it would cost.
