Harmonic balancer issues
I have a 2005 Ford Explorer with the Flex 4 L motor four-wheel drive automatic transmission Limited. I installed new timing chains front and rear and gears. Pulled out the engine did the repairs and put it back in. . Everything looks good and it's all back together and in the car. Then I notice the serpentine belt is running towards motor off of the harmonic balancer pulley. It's riding up on the edge of the pulley and is compromising the belt. It appears the harmonic balancer is not in far enough but nothing we can do to get it in any further. And after all the work we did on the motor appears to be successful and now what seems to be a simple thing like this is going to bring this train to a halt. I know someone out there has to have had the same problem perhaps you can enlighten me on what may be the cause of the harmonic balancer not going in enough? And we are only talking about 1/8 of an inch if that. Crank sensor seems to be perfectly aligned over the balancer and going any further with it would make it offset a little bit. There doesn't appear to be anything behind the balancer or in front of the crankshaft snout that could be holding it up. The balancer is new. And I am in Sacramento California if that makes a difference. Please advise.
I am assuming you torqued the balancer's bolt to specs. I question the new balancer, especially if its a Chinese made item.. . Unless the original balancer has slipped or was damaged , why would you have replaced it? If you replaced it just to have a new one, I would put the original balancer back on and see if that solves your problem.
