Default Noise on acceleration???

Hi all,
I have a 1999 Ford Explorer sport 4.0 and i have this problem. When i accelerate a whoom noise comming from engine. It does even when transshift to other level. i really don'tknow what it can be. please help! [&o]

Thanks Haya but its not that. It's really when i accelerate, it does loud noise like whoom. You know when you accelerate it does a certain sound, the noise of a normal vehiculebut now mine it's three or four time the same sound. It's like my vehicule pulling something but nothing is attached.

I think I may be having the same problem on my 2005 explorer v8. It sounds like it is sucking all the air in for a mile around. A friend has the same engine in his explorer and it is so quiet you barely hear the engine. I believe there is an air leak in the baffles leading to the air intake on the engine. The dealer played with it and made it a little qiueter but when I pull the boat it still makes quite a racket. Maybe I need to be more aggressive with the dealer. He doesn't seem to be worried about the noise.[:-]

Your wheel bearings might be going bad. I just changed mine. The faster I accelerated, the louder the humm like noise was. Tough to describe. It was constant through all the gears. Was @ $700 to fix.
