Serpentine belt/tensioner kit
Hi,
I had a squealing noise coming from my engine bay and the mechanic stated that I needed a new serpentine belt and tensioner pulley kit. He installed it at a cost of $345.00. The car is still making the squealing noise. It happens for about 2-3 minutes upon startup, then stops. Mechanic states that he can't diagnose the problem unless the car is making the noise while he is looking at it. I recorded the noise on audio/video for him with my iPhone, but he states that he doesn't want to start replacing more parts as a process of elimination. I agree as that can get expensive quick! Each time I drop the car off, I have to walk 1 1/2 miles home and then walk back to pick it up again. I already left the car overnight for him twice before, but the car didn't make the noise when he looked at it as it was only happening intermittently. Now it is happening more often. Does anybody else know what could be making this squealing noise? It is coming from on the area of the belt/pulleys/fan. Thank you!

There are a few pulleys and they have bearings. It is not very easy to remove the belt to turn the individual pulleys to see if you can feel anything unusual when they are cold.
Your mechanic can try that and he just might feel some roughness in one of the bearings even when warmed up.
