Default Starter replacement. 2000 4.0 L OHV, 5-speed manual

I replaced the starter two years ago and it went out again, under warranty for O'Reilly's. All the YouTube videos make it look easy, it drops right out.

I realized they must have the more common SOHC not the OHV engine, OR an automatic transmission. There was no way I could pull it out, needed about quarter inch clearance to clear engine. To the best of memory I had to jack up engine with block of wood under oil pan to get the clearance and drop it out.

Here's my problem. I can't duplicate how I lifted engine (if that's what I did). Placed jack on oil pan again and it lifts the whole front end, and still not getting it clear - clearance is not increasing. It's hanging up between engine and drive shaft.

Suggestions to get more clearance?

Looked back at old notes. The lift point is a few inches behind the oil pan.
