Default 1994 F-150 Parking Brake Strut (Link)

I should have taken pictures. You wouldn't believe it. Anyway, I bought this 1994 F-150 XL 4.9L 2wd truck and am finally getting around to redoing the brakes. Whoever was in there before has never read a book nor can they follow a picture. The cable guides were in the bottom holes which routed the cable through the brake shoe mounting spring and the adjusting screw spring was on top holding a brake shoe in place. So, I took everything off and when I looked at all the parts, I noticed that I only had ONE Parking Brake Strut (Link). Part Number Ford Bendix 3206137 R. I'm assuming that that is Ford Part Number D4VY-2A642-A for the Right Rear Strut. Which would make D4VY-2A642-B the P/N for the missing Left Rear Strut. My problem is that NO ONE sells the Ford part nor does Dorman or anyone else sell a replacement part. To me, a 1994 F-150 isn't that old. They sell such struts for other old vehicles so why not for the most popular vehicle on the road? Does anyone have any ideas or any parts they might want to sell? My goto (eBay) has even failed me this time. No one in the whole eBay world has 1994 F-150 parts for sale?

You could try this site and hopefully find a boneyard in your area that has a 94 (probably other years would work too ) F150 in their yard. Keep in mind, the reason they removed the strut was because they had a binding emergency brake cable going to that side. You may have some additional work to be performed if you replace that strut bar. It appears whoever did the last brake job was not savvy enough to look at the other side to compare part placement if they had a memory lapse.

Your best bet is a salvage yard.
Some REAL auto supply stores may have some of what you need. Most folks are not in the repair business so they don't know where to go for some parts.
This is far out , but may hold an answer. You may be able to get the parts you need , but may need to buy the whole axle assy, crazy, but possible.

You need to go to a REAL auto supply store like NAPA not some of these places that specialize in curb feelers and fragrance specialists.
There are hardware kits available that include the springs, cables, adjusters and all the hardware you would need to do the job right. The links are a specialty part and as stated earlier a salvage yard is a good bet. You may need to buy the entire brake shoe parts, but better to have all the stuff you need than be without.

Shopping on line is fine , sometimes, but a good part of the time you wind up with the wrong parts, to me ,not worth it.
There is no skimping with brakes, do it right and do it once.

You might try , Vintage Parts Inc. , located in Beaver Dam, Wisc.

Thanks for the suggestion. I checked online salvage yards and F150 forums but didn't think to check old car websites. I also hadn't thought about why the strut bar was missing. I'll keep an eye out for emergency brake cable binding. The brake shoes were only replaced on one side but when they put the cable guide in they put it in the wrong hole on both sides. They were consistant - consistantly bad. The previous owner had recently bought the truck and noticed that the brakes were "touchy". Now I'm beginning to find out why. Thanks again for the suggestion.

I was hoping about NAPA but just the usual popular brake items showed up on their website. What's odd is that Dorman used to make such a part, I believe, but no more. I guess it isn't a part that wears out or breaks so there isn't much of a demand for it. And Ford has gone on to newer parts and forgotten about the vintage trucks. I've checked some online salvage yards with no luck. I do have one UPull USave yard near me that I'll have to go over and check out. According to their website, they have a couple of F-150's from around that year. I'll take the one I've got and look for the mirror image. I did notice with some of the brake parts I got from Rock Auto that one packet had a missing spring and another had a wrong spring. But, that was for my 1965 Ford Galaxie. NAPA had a packet of the correct springs on hand to fix that problem. You're right about not skimping on brakes. I'm 78 and it's more important for me to stop than to go fast. Most of my driving is city driving. An accident at 30 mph is a fender bender. An accident on the highway at 60 to 70 mph is a hospital visit. I've been in accidents and I don't like them. They hurt. Again, thanks for the Vintage Parts suggestion.

I have found from past experience, it is better to call the store and speak with a knowledgeable counter person . That gives you a chance to explain what you are looking for and many times the stuff is sitting on a shelf where it is not listed on a website.
