It may even have a large piece of tubing about 3/4 in. diameter attached to the bottom of it . That tubing should go to the exhaust manifold.
Good lookin' out hanky. The EGR valve looks like this:

This pic shows a '94 5.8L without the EGR Valve Positioning Sensor attached. So on the truck this part will have a black plastic cap with wires coming out of it. The vacuum port is sticking out of the valve assembly, bottom left.

Default Hi Fellow Forders!

Sorry to interrupt here but I have several 90's F-150's and almost all had the 5.8L V8, darn good engine I must say. But Mr. Hanky stated: "The EGR valve is much larger and should be located more to the rear of the engine and most likely on the passenger side. It may even have a large piece of tubing about 3/4 in. diameter attached to the bottom of it". With that being said, on the 5.8L the EGR valve is located on the front of the engine, on the passenger side, mounted up high in plain sight and yes it does have a steel tubing leading from the bottom of the EGR straight to the manifold as Mr. Hanky said, kinda like hard piped-in if you will, and a small vac line on the top side. Not trying to butt in just thought I'd help. Thanks!

Default Good Morning FORDERS!

Good Morning Mr. Hanky, I am in total agreement with ya there. I'm by no means an expert, just know what I know, which may be slim sometimes at that. LOL I've built 29 cars/trucks from the ground up, mostly Fords, and that still doesn't make me an expert. Ya'll have a great day and keep on "FORDIN"!

Default I Just Don't Know Anymore

Good Morning Mr. Hanky. Well, me repairing them? Not looking so good right now. My 93 F150, 5.8L has me running circles. It don't want to idle when it starts then runs fine, but when maintaining any rpm you can feel it surgeing real softly. When cold on start up, it acts like it's on full choke and sits there fluttering. Have to hold 1500+ rpm till it clears up, maybe 15 seconds. I have changed egr, throttle sensor, AIC valve (twice) and new computer. Still does it. Driving me nuts. I ask myself, what in the heck is left to change. Under normal conditions, it would be the AIC valve. If it were the throttle sensor, I should have gotten a "Check Engine" lite, which I have never got till yet. Who to figure, Eh!

I just went through the same problems, I would start simply by cleaning out the inside of your distfibuter cap, like they were saying with plugs and wires. Along with checking air filter, your cadalidic converters, and fuel filter.

Default Still Have VAC Problem!!!!!!

Well, believe me Mr. Jack, I've covered all them bases. Like I stated, this isn't my first rodeo, ALTHO, it sure seems like it. It's funny how the simplest thing can drive a good man to drinkin! LOL. My MSD Dist., cap, rotor & wires are only about 4 months old. I checked/cleaned my HI-PO Air cleaner system as well. Like I said, I have (think) narrowed it down to a vac problem alright, as I am in the process of completely gutting the vac system and re-running ALL new lines and sensors. There is one thing I haven't got a grip on yet, top of motor (5.8L), drivers side, has two vac.
Solenoids and in front of them is another black vac. solenoid. I use to think that was the EVR valve, but that's on top of the EGR with the wires coming out of it. So what is the black valve? It looks like it has a **** on top, which, as I can find out, is a filter cap for back bleeding. It feeds vac to the EGR valve. I also have a new PCM (ECM), 1 month old. I know all these solenoids feeds through the PCM. That's where they get their grounds from when activated.
