Just bought a 2025 STX,and when it starts up the rpm,s are high for about (1) minute. Anyone know why the RPM is so high?

 

There are a few reasons for an engine to operate at high idle speed when started cold. Most are concerning pollution reduction.

If the battery was disconnected for any reason and then when reconnected and the person starting the engine had their foot on the throttle pedal when the computer sets the cold idle speed, it uses the present setting as compared to the original programmed setting in the computer.

That should be covered by warranty and have the dealer correct that.

 

Hanky, thanks for the reply. How high is a normal idle on a 2.7 ?

 

Cold could be around 750 RPM and hot idle in park 600 RPM
