Hello everyone, I installed the LED strip lights that go between the tailgate and bumper that plug in to the flat four pin trailer plug.Now I lost the backup assist but not the backup camera.It says trailer hooked up all the time.Question is ,if I splice into the tail lights instead of using the plug will I get the backup assist back. This is a 2018 Ford F 150 crew cab. Thanks for any help.

 

This may or may not be helpful, but,,,,,,,,,,,,,Fords do not like add on items.
If it was installed at the factory , certain provisions were taken into account and accommodations were made to permit the systems to work correctly.
Aftermarket add on features sometimes will be accepted and other times ,,NO !
Suggest you get in touch with the selling agency and see what they have to say on how to get your vehicle to accept your add on.

 

the reason you lost back up assist is because the car thinks you have a trailer connected. if a trailer was connected then when you reverse the back up assist would beep constantly because it thinks you will hit the trailer in the back so it is turned off for headache reasons. if you splice into the tailgate instead you will get back up assist back
