Smile Fuel pump problems?

Normally my f150 starts with a quick turn of the ignition, lately it takes longer and longer before it turns over and starts. sometimes it acts like its not getting enough fuel at start up and sputters and dies. when it does finally start up it runs beautiful, no power loss or sluggishness. my question is, is it the fuel pump, pump relay, or fuel filter. i am a newbie to the forum and would appreciate any advice. i do plan on replacing the fuel pump myself (if thats whats needed) and would like to know of any known problems associated with this surgery. thank you

A lot depends on what you do with the vehicle, how much you like to do a job over, what you have available to spend ($) etc.
These are important considerations and that's why I bring them up.
Aftermarket fuel pumps , most of the time work, for a while.
My suggestion from several bad experiences is ; get a fuel pump assy from FORD!
They cost more, last longer and usually work well the first time installed.
Check with a few dealers and get an idea of the price.
Hope you can get a decent deal.

sometimes we need a few more details to help you with it like the year and the engine size and sometimes it's easier for you to lift the bed up so you don't have to drop the tank and try to remove the filler tube.

cycle the key from run to start and let the fuel pump run, then repeat 4x. This will prime the fuel lines. If it starts normally, the check valve in the fuel pump is bad. The fuel supply line is draining back into the tank.

your options are either a new fuel pump or to install a $30 check valve external to the tank.
