Default points ignition retro

I have a 1986 f150 that I want to convert to points ignition by putting in a distributor from a 71 f100. Pictures of distributors look different. Will a 71 distributor fit in an 86?

I do not believe that to be a good idea because;
If your vehicle is fuel injected, which I believe it is,
The dist provides the necessary signal for the vehicle to start and injectors to work.
The ign and fuel system are tied together via the vehicle computer (ECA).
If you were to install a carb that is not dependent on certain info from the dist and ign module, you might get away with the point set up.

Can we ask what you had in mind and why?

It's a three-hundred engine, not fuel injected. All emissions and computer gone. Standard transmission. Switching to non-feedback carb and distributor. I like old-school.

If you have both dist, just compare. Can you still get points and cond ?

I could compare, but I'd like to have an educated guess when I place my order.
