Transmission issue please help ripping hair out
Hello my name is Travis,
I could seriously use any help as I am not the best with figuring out transmission problems. Let me give you some history... customer of mine bought a 08 f150 5.4 4r75e 4wd. He got it as abandoned vehicle and I looked at it and it exhaust manifolds in both sides a bunch of other work and he wanted the transmission serviced. He tells me that it had a few times of hard shifting issues and that the fluid was pretty low but no codes other than for a cylinder misfire which I handled weeks before the manifold job. After everything was said I'm done I changed the filter fill the fluid went to start and noticed allowed scraping sound which I thought was the junk Duralast starter I put in it wasn't. Check the trans fluid after putting only four or five quarts in it was way up the dipstick almost as it wasn't sucking the fluid into the trans turns out there was a dent in the pan almost pancake against the filter pick up I dropped the pen again replaced the pan and the filter again filled it with fluid test drove it everything was fine as soon as it got up to temperature the truck went into limp mode and I started getting codes p0962 p0715 p0748 after leaving truck sit overnight I started it again in the morning truck drove fine as soon as it went to temperature p0962 set and came back every time I cleared it within 3 seconds. I also noticed that the truck started not starting unless it was in neutral I replaced the transmission range sensor truck can still be taken from Park to drive without pushing in the button on the shifter and from drive to reverse with no stop. No matter what I do p0962 sets immediately one truck is up to temperature I checked the harnesses nothing is damaged I pulled the pan back down check the solenoids everything looks good I checked fuse number 33 it's not blown is there anything that I am missing should I replace the solenoids or should I replace the trans please help me if you wouldn't mind I would greatly appreciate it thank you.

It appears,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, from some descriptions, there might be a poor or corroded connection coming to the trans.
If that is the case and it is before the trans, replacing the trans may not correct the problem.
So we try to verify all connections are good and clean.Other than that you may need to have a trans shop check it out since they would have the equip do check it.

Every time I reread your post another thought flies in,lol.
If you remember,,,,did you notice any wires inside the trans that might have been pinched or stretched?
I can't tell you which ones to verify are not possibly broken, but I believe one of the solenoid control wires could be the problem. It is a PITA to drop the pan again, but maybe you will see something this time you might not have noticed earlier. What do you think ?
