Default 1986 Ford F250 Electric Fuel Pump

Seeking recommendations for reliable electric fuel pump (or preferably the complete sending unit) for rear steel fuel tank.

I have a 1986 Ford F-250 4X4 with 7.5 460 engine. I really want to purchase the complete sending unit with a pump. The obstacle is that I have a steel tank but what is available to purchase is specifically for plastic tanks. I believe that my only option is to purchase just the pump.

When I look at other online companies there are various brands (Spectra Premium, US Motor Works). Carter/Airtex does not have the electric pump I need for the rear tank. Do you have a recommendation? Last thing I want to do is go through all this work and get a pump that is junk.

This is a shot in the dark.

You might try , Vintage Parts Inc.
Beaver Dam, Wisc.

You might have to buy the entire fuel pump module that comes with the pump and gauge sending unit, Not cheap.

I just called them and gave them the original part number. They don't carry it. Thanks anyway.

Carter and Airtex are good pumps..

I don't remember any original tanks being plastic, did someone change them?

It would be my preference to buy a Carter or Airtex but they don't have the electric fuel pump or the complete sending unit for the rear steel tank. They only have it for a plastic tank which is a different size sending unit/pump. Apparently somewhere down line fuel tanks went plastic. I can still buy a rear steel tank but can't buy the sending unit for one. It's frustrating. I just wanted to know if there was an opinion/recommendation of the electric fuel pump brands I mentioned.

If you have a choice go for the carter or if you can find Delphi, those would be my choice. From experience, I had nothing but issues with Airtex and Spectra electric fuel pumps.Because of availability, you might not have a choice.
