Ford F-250 & Ford F-350The heavier duty full sized trucks from Ford, offering bigger, more powerful engines and drivetrains for the abuse they may go through in the workplace.
I have a 1997 F250 7.3 diesel 4WD 5 speed manual. To get the engine to start I have to turn the key to the start position (after the wait light goes out), then stomp on the clutch very hard. Sometimes it takes more than one stomp. Very cold and very hot weather makes the problem worse. I could not start it at all the last two days with the temps near zero. The truck has an engine block heater; using it did not help. After running for a while to get everything warmed up, it usually takes only one stomp to re-start. I have not noticed any problem after the truck has started.
This has been going on for nearly two years. It only got serious when it would not start at all in the recent cold weather. Any help is much appreciated.
Look under the dash and look for the link the clutch pedal pushes to operate the clutch safety sw and clutch master cyl..
The stub on the pedal arm connects to an eyelet that when the pedal is depressed activates the sw assy and master cyl.
Look for excessive wear on that eyelet, which can be temporarily repaired or the rod replaced.
Not knowing what facilities or tools you have ,it might be simpler to just replace the rod.
There are a few videos on U tube showing this.
Let us know what you decide to do,thanks..
For no crank no start you would need the long jumper wire to test the starter solenoid but since it's crank no start and on M/T with CPP (clutch pedal position switch) on yours and most other cars with clutch interlock switch please check the following accordingly.
