2010 F250 6.4L front end steering linkages rebuild
I pamper my 2010 F250 4WD 6.4L. Original owner. Stock front end, no lift. I religiously grease the main knuckle ball joints (front, L and R) every 5,000 miles, and sadly that's the ONLY Zerk grease fittings on the entire OEM steering package. I never drive in mud. I hit salt water ~ 2 times per year in winter, but I hose things off underneath within a day or two. So, questions:
1. Is it reasonable that when the truck was nine (9) years old the steering system had already developed significant slack/play/slop @ highway speeds of 50-60 mph on smooth pavement? And that's with x4 new Michelin tires and an NRB 4-wheel alignment. Today, at 12 years old, the steering wheel play is ~ 2 inches of no-effect travel when driving 60 mph on highway. This degree of steering imprecision is ... problematic. I want it fixed!
2. Who makes the best Zerk-fitting greasable front end steering kits (Moog, XRF, BulletProof Stearing)? Ford Service Dealer here in Northern Virginia is quoting me (parts + labor) $1,364 to replace the front end ball joints and tie rod ends (3 main parts, not a complete rebuild) with stock OEM parts (non-greasabe). Says that's 4 hours of labor. That seems high to me, and I'm not even sure if that's includes the necessary 2-wheel alignment afterwards.
