Default Brake Fluid Level Switch error code

I have a 2012 F250 with the 6.2L gas engine. About 140k miles.

I'm getting error code B1048-01 - brake fluid level switch.

When the error code started the dashboard light would flicker on and off when I was driving, which leads me to believe it's an electrical issue somewhere. It's always on (and always chirping at me) now.

I've checked the brake fluid level (it's fine). I've replaced the brake fluid level sensor under the master cylcinder (it was fine). I've checked the wiring harness connections at the sensor and by the parking brake under the dash (they were fine). I've inspected the brakes at the wheels (they're fine).

What. The. F$%k.

Any ideas? At this point I'm tempted to cut the wires to the sensor and short them out. If I knew that would work I'd do it in a heartbeat.

If you did not check the continuity of the harness with an ohm meter, you basically didn't check it. Visually doesn't matter.

If I recall correctly,,,,,,,,if the parking brake sw is misadjusted,it will also cause that light to illuminate.

Would bet a cup of coffee that is where the problem lies.

I wouldn't think that'd be throwing the Brake Fluid Level Sensor error though, would it?

We are dealing specifically with a code B1048-01 which specifies a fault with the fluid level switch circuit.B1048-01 has nothing to do with the E-brake, otherwise you would be setting a code everytime the park brake is applied.
Possible causes:
  • Faulty Brake Fluid Level Switch. I am not sure if a float is still used in the reservour which could be stuck.I remember these being visible after you removed the cap on the master cylinder. You stick your finger down the hole to work it and free it up.
  • Brake Fluid Level Switch harness is open or shorted.Continuity tests with your ohm meter.
  • Brake Fluid Level Switch circuit poor electrical connection. May want to look for any corrosion at the actual fluid level switch connection too.
  • Faulty Electronic Brake Distribution (EBD). Hopefully not.
Hopefully the coffee is still hot.

If what I suggested was wrong, it won't be the first time !

It wasn't on a 2016 model, but if they use the same lamp , I did have to learn that solution the hard way lol.

Sure gonna miss that coffee though.
