Default But The Puddle In My Drive Is Pink!!!

One more question for the day, if you all don't mind. I wrote last year regarding information on a leaking rear seal (2015 F-350- Gas). Not long after that, I realized it was my sons vehicle that left the motor oil in my drive. Looking closer on my truck, I discovered transmission fluid leaking from the dust shield. This leak only occurs when the vehicle is driven, never when sitting idle for a while. I am assuming it is the transmission front seal; does anyone concur? I also assume I will have to pull the trans to investigate but any advice (prior to the extraction) would be much appreciated. Last question for the day...promise! Mentioned in prior post today, I have Haynes and Factory Service manual (all 10,500 pages!).

From what you describe, I would be inclined to agree.
It is somewhat unusual for that seal to go in such a short time, but don't know mileage or use conditions, still unusual !

Miles??

TC seal leaks weren't too common on late MY's

But, not too many places for TF to come from if bleeding out of the bell housing. That said, could always dye check it,, or if/when removed try and determine the path the lube made.. If the TC seal lip is leaking, it will tend to move along the drive hub and deposit onto the back of the converter. If the seal OD is leaking, it will tend to run down the front pump and on out and may not show, or less, on the backside of the converter. The TC cover welds carry a small potential for leak, as do the lug welds. But rare..

If the TC seal when removed the lip is sharp,, no wear edge on the front pump drive hub, I'd consider resealing the front pump. At the very least check them for tight/torque during a seal replacement. If a front pump leak, the backside of the TC should be dry.. Actually, I normally pump reseal on most my own repairs if the TC seal looks to be healthy, and no whiteness of weld issues...

Default Some Explaining To Do!!

Thanks again for the additional advice. I so much appreciate this forum (as opposed to learning things the hard way). Anyway, the vehicle has 110,000 miles on it and was driven nearly daily with a gooseneck attached (hauling livestock I do believe). I suspect the fluid may have been overheated a time or two, only surmising. I made several attempts to contact the "one owner" but he refused to answer my emails. He only lives a few miles away, in a nearby village. One of my concerns was fluid changes and spark plug replacements (if either had ever been done). The x-mission fluid looked really good when I took possession, so it may have been changed out just before he unloaded it. I took my issues to the dealer (Fairway Ford in Freeport, IL) right after the purchase but of course they would not stand behind the sale. The truck was sold as "all checked out OK" and looked/drove like new, so shame on me for not crawling under it! At my old age (72 wonderful years), I certainly should have known better. Now its my baby to fix. Thanks for listening!
